The difference

What actually counts as evidence.

Years of running investigations taught me where the line sits between a search result and evidence. What makes open-source intelligence useful in a courtroom, a claims file or a board paper is the standard behind it: independent corroboration, source provenance, hashing, timestamps and a chain of custody that holds up when the other side pushes back.

I built Veritrace around that standard. Every finding you get is traceable to its origin, dated, preserved and reproducible. If I cannot verify something, I tell you, plainly, in the report.

Our standard

Results you can rely on,
not a lucky search.

We don't sell a process, we deliver a result. The same standard holds on every file, whether it is a single locate or a multi-entity review: lawful, corroborated, and plainly confirmed or not.

01

Lawful, always

Every file records a lawful basis and legitimate purpose. Collection stays within the law, or we decline the work and tell you why.

02

Corroborated, not assumed

Nothing material rests on a single source. If it cannot be independently corroborated, it is flagged, not asserted.

03

Confirmed or not

Every substantive finding is stated plainly as confirmed or unverified. We never dress up a guess as a fact.

04

Preserved & source-linked

Captures are dated, hashed and tied to a numbered source, so any finding traces straight back to its origin.

Why Veritrace

Built on twenty years in the field.

I spent more than two decades in law enforcement before starting Veritrace, where every finding had to be documented, corroborated and able to stand up when it was challenged. Those habits were in place long before I opened the first OSINT file.

Findings you can act on immediately

Every finding is stated plainly as confirmed or unverified, so you know exactly what stands up and where not to spend.

Lawful by design

We work within the Privacy Act, state investigator licensing regimes and platform terms. We will decline work that requires us not to, and we will tell you why.

Fixed-scope pricing

Quoted per engagement or per matter type, agreed in writing before work starts. No open-ended hourly drift on a locate that should take a day.

Common questions

Before you enquire

Collecting and analysing publicly available information is lawful, but it is not unrestricted. The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) governs how personal information is handled once collected, state and territory legislation governs surveillance and investigator licensing, and platform terms of service impose their own limits.

We scope every engagement against a stated lawful basis and legitimate purpose, and we document that basis in the report. Where a request would require unlawful access, pretexting or circumvention of access controls, we decline it.

A database returns records. It does not tell you whether the John Smith in the record is your John Smith, whether the address is current, or whether two seemingly unrelated entities share a controller.

OSINT is the analytical layer on top: resolving identity, corroborating across independent sources, reconstructing timelines and explaining what the records actually mean in the context of your matter.

A standard skip trace or single-subject background check typically turns around in two to five business days. Digital footprint analysis and due diligence reviews generally run five to ten business days depending on scope and jurisdiction spread.

Urgent and same-day work is available where the brief allows it. Timeframes are confirmed in writing at scoping, not estimated after the fact.

Our collection methods are passive. We do not contact subjects, send connection requests, message associates or otherwise interact with the person of interest unless you specifically instruct overt enquiries and the engagement lawfully permits it.

Some platforms notify users of profile views by design. We identify those risks at scoping and adjust our approach accordingly.

They are prepared to be. Reports include dated captures with hash values, a full source appendix and a chain-of-custody record, and they are structured for annexure to an affidavit.

Admissibility is ultimately a matter for the court and for your instructing lawyers. Our job is to make sure nothing in the way the material was gathered or documented is the reason it fails.

Our core coverage is all Australian states and territories. We regularly handle offshore elements of Australian matters, including foreign corporate registers, international sanctions and adverse media screening, and cross-border asset identification.

Where a matter needs on-the-ground capability in another jurisdiction we will say so rather than stretch beyond what open sources can properly support.

We will tell you if it can be answered.

Send a short outline of the matter. We will come back with a scope, a fixed price and a realistic timeframe, usually within one business day. If open sources cannot get you there, we will say that before you spend anything.
